This is a neighborhood bakery for us and we love it.
Fresh, french and friendly.
Great cakes to order as well! Yahoo Local 10/30/08
I used to walk past this place all the time because i thought it might just be some phony french place, but one day i thought i shouldn't judge so i went in and sure enough the lady at the counter was french!!! so is the manager!!! it was tres magnifique! Yahoo Local 10/23/08
No better place to meet up with friends. Isabelle Briens French Pastry Cafe always has the freshest pastries. Great coffee too! North County Time
Everything I have had here has been wonderful--croissants (the chocolate almond are To Die For), panini and croissant sandwiches, omelets, crepes both savory and sweet ... everything. And the presentation is typically French, with a little side of fanned apple slices and some halved grapes, or a twist of orange slice artfully arranged. You can of course get strong French cafe au lait or espresso drinks, juices and European sodas. The counter help is friendly and didn't make me feel like an idiot when I tried out my college French, which is a good thing, because I realized afterwards that the last time I went there I greeted the server with "Welcome!" (Bienvenue!) instead of "Bonjour"--oh well :-) Yelp 12-20-08
I've only been here a few times and already this is one of my favorite places to eat around San Diego. This cafe is run by Isabelle, a French woman, and the service is always great. There are lots of French pastries available and you can order custom cakes. There's a few crepes and mainly a lot of sandwiches. The sandwiches all run about 7.55.. not the cheapest but very reasonable considering the ingredients. The items are all really interesting and I've been getting something new everytime I go here. Last week I had a sandwich with brie cheese, proscuitto, and cantalope. THAT'S RIGHT, there was fruit in my sandwich, and it was damn good!
The croque monsieur is also very good (grilled ham and swiss cheese sandwich).
I think they close at 6 every day. Yelp 7-26-08
Oh La La, les pâtisseries savoureuses!!!
OK, so that's about all the French I can speak because I was always skipping foreign language class to do "other" things as a kid. Alas, I have a weakness for fine pastries, especially French and Italian ones and Isabelle Brien's has been my weekly delight for some time now. They really do make impressive cakes, pastries, cookies, and sandwiches here!
I'm not saying that they are identical to the ones you'll find on the streets of Paris, but, the last time I checked, France was another continent away. Here is what fosters my délicieux souvenirs of this place: Black Forrest Ham and Brie Sandwich-YUM! Then again, my parent's taught me that putting Brie on ANY thing is good!
Grilled Cheese Sandwich-OUI (and we're not referring to the magazine either)!!!
Strawberry Cream Pastry-Super! So here is how we know that this chef has guile-They put a thin piece of white chocolate in between the cake and the berries and cream so that it does not become soggy! Clever, clever, clever!
Opera Pastry-SCARF, gone in a blink it's soooo good!
Apricot Pastry-Roll your eyes back incredible!
Brownies (with or without nuts)-Slap my butt, no really, I need to run another five miles to work off these baked masterpieces!
The last time we were here the proprietor Isabelle helped us. She is charming and statuesque! What I don't understand is how someone who runs a French Pastry Café can be so incredibly thin! If I worked here I'd have to shop at 'Rochester Big and Tall' for my pants!
Merci beaucoup Isabelle Brien's! Rendez-vous la prochaine fois! Yelp 11/18/08
